About Tucson Food Share
In times of crisis, our most reliable support comes from within our communities. Tucson Food Share is a collective effort by and for Tucsonans to share life-giving resources amongst ourselves, without dependence upon government or corporate support. We operate by the principles of mutual aid, distributing food and other necessities without judgment to anyone who asks. We seek to make resources accessible, prioritizing the needs of our neighbors who are forgotten, ignored, and exploited by those in power. This is an entirely volunteer-run project that depends upon donations from community members to function.
Our current operations:
- Receiving bulk donations or purchasing supplies wholesale.
- Packing groceries for individual households in a sanitary, controlled environment to prevent the spread of contagions.
- Distributing groceries at 600 N 4th Ave, Mondays and Thursdays 6-8pm.
- Cooking and sharing a community meal every Sunday evening in De Anza Park, 1 hr before sunset until dark.
- Using strict hygiene protocols in line with WHO and CDC recommendations to minimize the spread of COVID-19.
We support anyone who:
- Is already self-isolating because their age and/or medical conditions put them in serious danger if they contract the virus.
- Can’t afford expensive grocery delivery services, and must either risk exposure or go hungry.
- Is sick and cannot leave home for fear of infecting others.
- Can’t afford groceries because of lost work or structural poverty.
- Is otherwise unable to reliably access nourishing food.
TFS was created by Food Not Bombs Tucson, a loosely organized collective of Tucsonans who come together out of empathy and respect for all of our neighbors. We feel honored to share food freely with anyone who wants it, regardless of their appearance or life circumstances. Most of our food is generously donated by local grocers and farmers who support this mission. We continue to cook and share publicly on Sunday evenings in De Anza Park, to support those who are unable to isolate and cook at home.
